1930s Cabin Launch

Built in the 1930s by Southampton Boats, Bella is a beautifully handcrafted cabin launch measuring 9.2 metres in length with a 2.2 metre beam. Her mahogany planking over oak frames speaks of an era when craftsmanship and design relied on a builder’s eye rather than a machine’s precision. Powered by a dependable Vetus diesel engine, she was surveyed in March 2024, with remedial works completed by the respected Freebody yard. Cushions, winter cover, and canopy are all included in the sale.

When I first saw Bella, I couldn’t help but think how charming she was. I see many traditional craft, each with their own personality, but Bella felt different, unique even. Her curved cabin corners, arched windows, and balanced proportions show the hand of a boatbuilder with real flair and an understanding of traditional design.

Little is known about her history, there are no tales of wartime service or famous owners, but with ninety five years behind her, there’s no doubt she’s lived a few stories worth uncovering.

Petite yet well formed, Bella offers a functional wheelhouse, a simple but well planned aft cockpit, a small galley that could easily be enhanced, and a welcoming forward cabin with two sofa berths. She carries an unmistakable air of quiet escape, the perfect little cruiser for weekends away, where life slows down and time on the water feels timeless.

Currently in storage and available for viewing, Bella would make a delightful and characterful weekender for anyone who appreciates traditional wooden boats and the individuality they embody.
