This so called Bat Boat which we showed at the 2024 Traditional Boat Festival ended up finding its original owners on site. Its history was a little hazy but we do at least know that there were at least two built, probably at Shepperton Studios for a film in the late sixties/seventies and it could have been Batman. It certainly is a sturdy and attractive little boat built of mahogany on oak with obeche decks and two charming little windscreens which were added by the current owner who has had the boat in his ownership for more than 20 years. The 10hp Honda outboard and the trailer add up to make this a really useable and attractive little four seater wooden launch. The sister boat is apparently owned by the film director Peter Jackson and is located in New Zealand.

In the 1989 Phillips auction catalogue we find the following entry for Simo on page 43 - the same boat according to a previous owner, it is described as 'built of mahogany with seam battened hull, narrow planked pine decks, mahogany covering boards and stern wings. There are twin cockpits with bench seats, steering to starboard, cable operated, curved perspex windscreen' (since replaced), 'and complete with trailer (no engine)'.

The boat comes with 6 neat navy traditional fenders, 2 matching ropes, a battery for the electric starts and a manual bilge pump.
