Viola – 1929 Borwicks of Windermere Gentleman’s Launch
Henley Sales & Charter are delighted to bring Viola to market — a rare 1929 Borwicks of Windermere gentleman’s launch. Originally built for the Lake Windermere tourist trade, Viola is one of a historic fleet of elegant mahogany-on-oak launches, with sister boats still operating at the Windermere Museum today.
Her provenance is well documented over the past 20 years, with service on the Norfolk Broads and the Thames. In 2020, she underwent a significant overhaul at Dennetts Boatbuilders in Chertsey, including replacement of most underwater hull timbers, a full external revarnish, and the addition of new varnished mahogany floorboards. She is now structurally sound and set for many decades of reliable use.
On board, Viola combines period charm with practical features:
Currently lying at Benson Waterfront Marina, Viola is ideal for entertaining, day cruising, or attending classic boat events such as the Henley Traditional Boat Festival, where she has been a regular feature.
Presented in excellent condition and with a fascinating history, Viola represents a unique opportunity to acquire a true piece of Windermere and Thames heritage.
