Saro Terrapin Aluminium Speedboat

Stardust II is a 13ft aluminium two-seater Saro Terrapin, a rare retro speedboat built in the early years of Saunders Roe…. the Isle of Wight ship and aerospace builders known for everything from elegant gentleman’s cruisers to iconic flying boats. The Terrapin shows exactly how that background influenced the design…. light, fast, purposeful, using the same all-aluminium approach the company used in its aircraft.

This particular boat has been a long-term passion for the current owner, restored over the years with real care and, more importantly, enjoyed properly. She delivers quick acceleration, lively handling and that exhilarating low-on-the-water feeling these little rockets are known for. She’s best suited to calm water where she can stretch her legs, giving a playful high-speed run rather than battling through choppy seas.

Stardust II is finished in pale blue with a rich burgundy interior and keeps all her period charm. Some examples have been taken back to bare metal and polished for a space-age look, but this one holds onto the character she’s developed through decades of use and enjoyment. She currently runs with a 30hp Suzuki four-stroke, giving plenty of pace and an easy, reliable driving experience.
