Windrush 46 is a very special river launch with a PLA licence for operating on the tidal Thames as well as on the Upper Thames. She would be equally at home as a smart ferry or commercial enterprise on an estuary or lake. Her design is such that 12 people can eat or have a private meeting in the heated aft cockpit. The forward area can be uncovered to offer outside space should it be required.
From the photos it is clear to see what a special craft this is with the Watermen and Lightermen in their uniforms fulfilling royal duties on the Thames and indeed Her Majesty the Queen has used the boat for river duties and state occasions over the years. Recently the boat has been available for private charter and has had a successful career working on the tidal Thames and around Richmond for her current owners.
This particular 'inspectors' style launch is a unique steel construction boat commissioned in 1989, designed by Alan Hill and fitted out by RJ Prior at Burnham-on-Crouch. The steel hull has been well maintained over the years with the mahogany cabin also being carefully tended both inside and out. The galley and heads are smart and modern so a new owner could safely sail away from the present mooring for the coming season after a hand over knowing that all the systems are in good order and ready to go.
The forward cockpit gives good visibility for skipper and crew (where applicable) with adjustable helm seats, VHF etc.
