Treasure - an Andrews slipper stern launch

£32,500

Treasure is a 25ft Slipper launch built by John Andrews of Bourne End in 1937 with the builder’s number 144.  She is powered by a Morris Vedette 4-cylinder, side valve engine, serial number 15278. The boat will come with a certified document confirming the boat's authenticity.

The hull and topsides are of mahogany carvel construction with oak timbers and frames. An early example of this perennial Thames classic, Treasure has the advantage of a large cockpit with comfortable seating on an aft bench designed to seat 3 comfortably and 4 Lloyd Loom style chairs with cushions.  All cushions have removable covers and are white with blue piping.  There are two small cabinets each side midships which allow the use of an occasional table to slot between them.

The current owner purchased Treasure in 2011 through Henley Sales and Charter.  Upon purchase Sparks Marine Trimmers were commissioned to make an easy-to-fit overall boat cover and this is augmented with a wooden skeleton that sits on the brightwork over the fore deck to keep the hood away from the varnish.  They also had a simple and quick to fit tonneau made for day trips and a clear front screen that attaches to the pram hood and the bottom of the front screen to give additional protection if caught out by rain.

The 4 cylinder BMC petrol engine has been looked after by Steve Dean of Dean Marine and the hull and varnish work have been maintained by Woottens of Bourne End.

Prior to the Magna Carta Pageant in 2015  Wootten’s Boatyard scraped the decks back to bare timber and applied 11 coats of varnish, rubbed down between each coat so that she could lead The Queen’s Royal Barge, Gloriana, down the Thames from Marlow as part of the 800th Anniversary relay.

Each year she has over-wintered in the care of Wootten’s Boatyard who examine her hull and bodywork for any concerns.  In 2020 Guy Wootten noticed some planking at the bow was in need of attention so she was stripped in that area, new planking was installed and part of the stem replaced, photos of which are available.  The hull was then treated to new paintwork, boot top and the usual anti-fouling before she was returned to the water looking glorious for the season.

The current owners have enjoyed using her frequently every year and she has been in reliable regular use.  Being sold due to another boat purchase.
