The Boat is one of about 12 Sapphire launches which have come through a number of builders after the Neptune Yachts mould was used to create these lovely boats. In fact I was the person commissioned to sort out the moulding and to do the launch of the first boat which is based in Henley just a short walk from our office and still gleaming with its burgundy GRP hull and its varnished wooden decks. The original Sapphire from which the design was taken is still on the Thames, albeit with a cabin added. The design was revolutionary when launched in 1904 with the attractive beaver stern and a concealed tunnel hull which flattens the wash.
Bossoms of Oxford built just one Sapphire launch which is now for sale with HSC. This one has a recently installed Vetus 2 cylinder 10 hp diesel engine and was revarnished for the Loire Festival in 2019. The BSS certificate is valid to 2022 and the EA Thames licence to the end of 2020. There is a useful three quarter canopy with a tonneau as well as a winter cover. The aft bench seat was recaned in 2019 and the boat seats up to 8 people comfortably.
The boat is currently moored in Eynsham for viewing on the Upper Thames and the boat generally overwinters with us at Beale Park out of the water.
There is a full inventory including 4 wicker chairs, a table, side screens for the canopy, carpets, boat hook, warps, fenders, anchor, mooring stakes, navigation lights and a horn. Prop shaft bearings have been replaced in spring 2020.
Viewing is by appointment with the vendor via our office on 01491 578870.
