Red Serpent – A Timeless Classic on the Water
Step aboard Red Serpent, a stunning 25ft Andrews slipper launch (no. 138), where classic craftsmanship meets thoughtful restoration. Built in 1936 with rich mahogany carvel planking over robust oak timbers and frames, Red Serpent is a shining example of the timeless elegance and grace of the golden age of river cruising.
Lovingly acquired in 2012 through Henley Sales and Charter, Red Serpent has been extensively and sympathetically refurbished by her current custodian. In 2018, she received a brand-new bottom, expertly completed by Dennetts, ensuring strength, stability, and peace of mind for decades to come.
Powered by a smooth and reliable 3-cylinder, 28hp Vetus diesel engine installed in 2014, she glides effortlessly and gracefully along the water. In 2021, further enhancements included a replacement stern gland and stuffing box, as well as an overhauled propeller shaft and propeller — a testament to the meticulous maintenance this vessel has enjoyed.
A current Boat Safety Certificate is valid until 17/02/2029. Since acquisition, Red Serpent has been carefully stored under cover each winter at Bushnell’s Boatyard, preserving her beauty and integrity year-round.
Comfort has not been overlooked: she comes complete with three Lloyd Loom chairs, a cushioned rear bench seat, boat hook, paddle, and a newly manufactured custom cover (2023). The canopy, replaced in 2012, still provides excellent protection and style.
Red Serpent is more than a boat — she is a piece of British river heritage, ready to offer her next custodian years of leisurely cruising and admiring glances along the Thames or beyond.
