New Venture - a 40ft Bates Starcraft

SOLD

If you were looking for a large family vessel capable of river or sea work in the late fifties you would certainly have considered a Bates Starcraft. The 40ft version with a flying bridge had everything a family could wish for in terms of holidays afloat, whether on UK or European waterways. Two heads, one with bath (now converted to a shower on New Venture), were standard, leather seating, large galley with big fridge, cocktail cabinet, sleeping for seven, now converted in most cases to four or five at separate ends of the boat. This was and still is a fantastic boat for leisurely cruising. New Venture has cruised extensively both here in the UK and abroad. She is presented in exceptional order with a choice of covers, gleaming chrome fittings, integrated electrical system with seamless change over between shore and on board supplies, a new generator with separate battery and charging facility. The current owner has lavished attention and funds on upgrading and maintaining this exceptional vessel. The previous owners won an award prior to attendance at the Jubilee pageant in London for their restoration so this is indeed a rare boat where each owner has invested heavily in top quality maintenance. The galley might look mid century but is in fact state of the art and there is even a discreet TV for winter evenings in the saloon.

The aft heads are adjacent to the master cabin so effectively an en suite while heads serve the bow cabin and the galley area which is useful if you have a chef and crew on board for entertaining.

A tender with electric outboard hangs on the davits and is available as a separate purchase as is an additional Perkins engine which was refurbished as a spare by Dean Marine. The turbos were rebuilt on all three engine, new fuel injectors fitted and full invoicing is available for a prospective purchaser.

The navionics are by Raymarine and there is a radar system (not currently fitted but available).

BSS and Thames EA licence all in date. Please ask to see all maintenance records.

In 2022 New Venture won the Bates Wheel at the Thames Traditional Boat Festival in Henley on Thames.

RECENT SURVEY NOTES

A recent survey on New Venture by Robert Bingham concludes:

Further to my inspection of Bates Star Craft (New Venture) the following conclusion has been
established.
The vessel has been the subject of very extensive maintenance and conservation worksover the years.
The vessel was found to be structurally sound and is considered to be a very good example of her
marque. The vessel was presented in immaculate condition throughout, and has been maintained to
the highest standard. It is my opinion that this particular vessel is considered to be one of the best
examples of this vintage craft and a truly exceptional example of her marque.
