When a lake dwelling fishing enthusiast wanted the ultimate stable spacious boat to fit in his boathouse he designed Matilda with Hamish of PBW. Nippy and comfortable, ideal for estuary, lake or river this is a unique and charming cabin launch.
The hull is built of top quality marine ply and finished in E- Glass and white paint. Decks are of varnished quarter sawn Douglas fir as is the internal flooring while the side decks and wheelhouse are of English oak. The roof of the wheelhouse is also grooved plywood and then painted white on the outside with the inside being cedar tongue and groove. All deck hardware is of stainless steel.
The Honda outboard BF 40 is a reliable 40 hp engine with a leg which can be lifted for shallow water (vessel draft 1ft6ins). The outboard is concealed under the varnished wood aft deck.
The boat feels surprisingly spacious with the forward bunks, several lockers and comfortable seating both in the aft cockpit and in the wheelhouse. There is also a useful Portapotti. Matilda has a current Boat Safety Scheme certificate for use on the inland waterways including the Norfolk Broads.
Matilda would make a great all year round launch for any user, whether or not fishing was of interest. More seating could be fitted in the cockpit area to accommodate a total of six outside but for now there is a wrap around L shaped bench on the port side with cushions and a matching moveable single seat on the startboard side. An additional driving position could also be added in the aft cockpit if a new owner felt the need to enjoy socialising while steering.
