Historic cruising Dutch barge built in 1901 and now over one hundred years later she is resplendent having been given a new lease of life as a cruising houseboat. She is currently fitted out as a fabulous floating home based on the Thames near Henley. We think Maria Christina was built by Stofberg in Mijdrecht as transport for coal and originally sail powered. However in the latter part of the 20th century she came to the UK and was owned for a long time by a pilot who commissioned the upgrades which are now available to any owner including a modern Iveco engine, a generator, water maker, solar panels, decent shower, washing machine...the list goes on and includes everything you need to live on board either for short periods as a pied a l'eau, or longer term as a permanent home.
The boat moves between a winter mooring in Sonning on Thames and an idyllic summer mooring which may be available for a new owner by separate arrangement.
On board you can expect to find more storage space than in the average two bedroom flat, double glazed skylights, solid wood flooring, vintage style radiators, a wood burning stove, varnished mahogany doors and a superb galley with a five burner hob and gas oven, dishwasher etc and dining area separated from the lounge area by a judicious, attractive open shelving unit.
Below decks in the engine room is the recon Iveco, a 460 litre fuel tank, Victron Phoenix sine wave multi plus 24volt generator, a Victron inverter, four AGM batteries and separate 24 volt batteries for the engine start up. To help with autonomy there are four Panasonic HiT 245W solar panels, a large black water tank, a 36 kw diesel central heating boiler with its own fuel tank.
For working from home there is a separate office area with a desk aft of the main double cabin with free standing furniture and loads of storage space.
A full inventory is available on request and the furnishings, white goods and general contents are available for a new owner.
There is still a video on You Tube of Maria Christina when she was for sale a few years ago. The interior is somewhat different now as you can see from the photos on our website. However we do have a summer 2023 survey dating from August when the boat was in dry dock as well as some recent invoices for engine servicing and hull blacking etc. This is an exceptional cruising barge with a modern Iveco engine, a neat full height engine room with excellent equipment and I strongly recommend viewing if you are thinking of a live-aboard for full or part time occupation.
